In Netflix’s science fiction series In From The Cold, created by Adam Glass, we follow Jenny Franklin (Margarita Levieva) struggle with her enemies and her past, whose identity as an agent she has been hiding for many years is revealed.

Recently divorced Jenny Franklin comes to Madrid with a group of other children and their parents for her daughter’s roller skating competition. Moreover, this trip is a great opportunity to solve the problems between Jenny and her daughter Becca (Lydia Fleming). However, just a few hours before arriving at the hotel, Jenny is kidnapped and when she wakes up, she is accused by the CIA of being former Russian agent Anya Petrova (Stasya Miloslavskaya). Although she refuses, the truth comes out and Jenny is forced to cooperate with the CIA. So far, everything is just like an ordinary spy movie. However, the creator and director of the series, Adam Glass, is both a comic book writer and a screenwriter and producer of Supernatural. He adds some superpowers to the character, transforming him from an ordinary spy into a superhero. This is exactly what makes science fiction production. As a result of a secret Soviet experiment, Anya has gained special powers. We watch Anya’s past, in other words Jenny’s past, with flashbacks that are equivalent to today’s, and thus Anya‘s story gains depth.

Going back to the present, team leader Chauncey (Cillian O’Sullivan), team technical staff Chris (Charles Brice) and Jenny pursue the names behind and the violent incidents that took place in Madrid recently, against their will. Chauncey’s hidden plans and Jenny’s past complicate matters even more.

While watching In From The Cold, The Americans constantly came to my mind and I involuntarily compared it to him. To summarize for those who haven’t watched, The Americans is a production about Soviet agents who are sent to America at a young age and who take on an American identity with their jobs, families, lifestyles, everything. If you haven’t watched it, I would definitely recommend it. For In From The Cold, I wondered what it would be like if Jenny didn’t have special powers and was a normal super-talented agent, but this is what separates the production from the others.

In the first minutes, I had no expectations from In From The Cold, I was even about to close it. But then the story started to gain momentum and at the end of the second episode, I decided that I had to watch the whole season. I had to find out how the story would end. I can say that the scenes where we watched Anya‘s youth were the best part of the series. In fact, it would have been better if the series had taken place in that period.

The second season of In From The Cold has not yet been confirmed. The first season consists of 8 episodes of approximately 40 minutes and the second season ends with an ending that will not upset us even if it is not approved. It is not a magnificent production, but if you can be patient for a few episodes, I can say that it is a production that can attract you with its subject.
